As one of the most high traffic items in an interior, rugs will inevitably wear with time and use. There are a few preventative practices that assist with the longevity and beauty of the rug when paired with proper, regular maintenance.
Always handle spills immediately and with care.
Avoid damp areas and soaking the rug.
Shift your rug 180 degrees periodically (optional).
Avoid areas in continual, direct sunlight.
Pair it with a quality rug pad.
Specific Care
Depending on the type of rug, there may be special consideration when caring for the rug.
Pile Rugs
Avoid tugging yarn knots out of the surface pile.
If a strand is uneven, cut it to the length of the rug surface.
A suction vacuum is preferred; if a beater bar is attached be sure that the setting is high enough to not damage the rug.
Pile shedding is normal in heavy quality rugs.
Immediately tend to spills by blotting with a clean sponge or cloth.
Contact a professional cleaner for regular cleanings or in the event of a stain.
Flatweave Rugs
Vacuum regularly and thoroughly.

Performance Pile Rugs

Performance Flatweave Rugs
Vacuum regularly and thoroughly; a suction vacuum is preferred. If vacuum has a beater bar, make sure the setting is high enough to avoid damaging the rug.
Blot spills with a clean sponge or cloth.
For stubborn spots, use a mild soap and water mixture. Work solution in slowly, rinse and blot to remove soap residue.
Cleaning instructions after the Soil & Stain Treatment
In case of a liquid spill
Soak up the excess liquid with a paper towl, repeat as necessary. If you have a high pile rug, this may take patience as the treatment is covering each fiber. You can dampen your cloth as needed.
In case of a solid mess
Use a spoon to remove the solids first, then spray with water and gently pat with a paper towel. Repeat as necessary. If you can't remove the stain, then add a bit of dish soap to the water.
The finish will not protect against the following
The stain has been caused by a cleaning process known to be detrimental, such as steam cleaning.
The damage or stains are a result of bleaching agents, acids (such as urine), burns, corrosives, other extreme or unusual hazardous items.
Repetitive pet induced stains.
